Harry Houdini was a master mistifier and the most famous man in the world at the height of his stage act. With his wife Bess as his assistant, he performed for the Romanovs, may have been a spy for the CIA during the First World War, and led a crusade against fraudulent mediums and psychics who he believed were taking advantage of the trauma and grief caused by the war and the outbreak of influenza.
