The name of the fragrance, 1001, made me immediately think of the marvellous story that we all know and that continues to fascinate entire generations. I imagined a young woman, beautiful, strong, courageous, timeless if you like, and somehow the symbol of all todays women, regardless of race or ethnic group. I wanted the ingredients I chose to recall the mystery of the Orient with its colours, aromas and flavours. The main player in this fragrance is Papyrus, the writing medium par excellence, since the dawn of civilisation and through to relatively recent times. The fragrance opens on a lively, bright note, with the fresh spices of elemi, fresh ginger and pink pepper interwoven with the juiciness of Red tea, reflecting the optimism and patience of this woman who tells wonderful stories, night after night. The middle accord releases carnal and feminine Rose, to which so many lines have been dedicated, its charisma the certain companion for writers from other times and places. I used Curcuma absolute that, together with Saffron, warms its sensual floral heart, evoking Gold, an intense colour used to embellish the writing. The words that Scheherazade reads fade against an indulgent base of patchouli, soft woods and voluptuous amber, amplifying the deliberately mysterious character of this fragrance Luca Maffei, perfumer.
